Hello all, i am a budding novice in linux and am currently trying to install Squirrel on my Debian 8.5 machine. I am running into an error when attempting to run the make sq64 command. Here is the error i receive when trying to run the command.

gcc -O2 -m64 -D_SQ64 -fno-exceptions -fno-rtti -Wall -fno-strict-aliasing -c sqapi.cpp sqbaselib.cpp sqfuncstate.cpp sqdebug.cpp sqlexer.cpp sqobject.cpp sqcompiler.cpp sqstate.cpp sqtable.cpp sqmem.cpp sqvm.cpp sqclass.cpp -I../include -I. -Iinclude
ar rc ../lib/libsquirrel.a *.o
ar: ../lib/libsquirrel.a: No such file or directory
Makefile:50: recipe for target 'sq64' failed
make[1]: *** [sq64] Error 1
make[1]: Leaving directory '/usr/local/src/squirrel3-master/squirrel'
Makefile:16: recipe for target 'sq64' failed
make: *** [sq64] Error 2

Also, when trying to run the ./configure command in the extracted directory i get a no such file or directory error. I suspect I am missing some important package.

Thanks in advance for your time

Squirrel doesn't have a configure script because it doesn't need one.
From your output I presume you ran make in the "squirrel" folder, and the lib and and bin directories are missing.
Run make in the root of the package (where the COMPILE, COPYRIGHT, HISTORY and README files reside), do not run directly in "squirrel", "sqstdlib" or "sq".
This will create the necessary target directories and compile squirrel, sqstdlib and the squirrel standaolone program for you in one go.
