Hi all,

I've found Squirrel a most interesting concept and wanted to try my hands on it. So I downloaded V3.1 and tried to install it the simple way -- by running "make" from the top directory of the unpacked archive files.

But what I get is a lot of error messages:

gcc: error trying to exec 'cc1plus': execvp: Datei oder Verzeichnis nicht gefunden

("File or directory not found")

and consequently the compiler breaks off with errors (and without a result.)

And sure enough I can't seem to find cc1plus on my Lubuntu machine.

Now, lest I start downloading compiler packages like mad -- shouldn't a default C++ compiler come with Linux/gcc, and shouldn't that be the one invoked by the Makefile? In general, updates and recompiles seem to work nicely, though admittedly I rarely delve into the systems depths.

Any suggestions which probably very elemental and dumb mistake I'm making?

Thanks in advance,

Elmar/syzygy

All you need are g++ and make the rest should be a dependency of this packages.

Yes, I learned that g++ is not per default installed on my miscreant machine...

Now it works like a charme, thanks!

yep, sounds like a compiler problem not related to squirrel. Try "apt-get install -f g++"
